A custom acrylic window insert gives a portable air conditioner exhaust hose a clean, removable connection while preserving daylight. The panel is only as good as the measurements: window tracks, handles, screens, vent adapters and the way the sash closes all affect the final shape.

Measure the actual pocket or track where the panel will sit, not just the visible glass. Record width and height in at least three places, photograph the frame and obstructions, and bring the removable exhaust adapter to the store so its locking shape can be traced or measured accurately.
Choose the window and panel position
Confirm how the sash opens and where a removable flat panel can be captured. A vertical slider may hold a panel between the sill and lowered sash; a horizontal slider may capture it between the jamb and moving sash. Casement and tilt windows often need a different retention detail.
Check that the hose can reach without a tight bend, that the exhaust will discharge outdoors with adequate clearance, and that the panel will not interfere with handles, screens, blinds, sprinklers or emergency-egress requirements. Obtain landlord or strata approval where required.

- The panel pocket width and height at the top, middle and bottom
- Track depth, stops and gasket locations
- Handle, latch and screen clearances
- The desired vent centreline from two fixed edges
- The exact outer geometry and locking tabs of the factory exhaust adapter
- Maximum hose reach and bend radius
- Any corner radii, notches or tapered sides
- How the panel will be retained and weather-sealed
Use a steel tape or suitable rule, record one unit system consistently and never assume the opening is square. A dimension written as 31-1/2 inches is safer than a rounded “about 32.”

Photograph the complete window
Take the closed window, proposed open position, track detail and every obstruction. Include a ruler in close-up images where useful.

Make a labelled sketch
Draw the panel as viewed from inside. Mark top, bottom, room side, outside, all dimensions and the desired vent centre.

Measure the receiving pocket
Measure where the acrylic actually sits. Compare three width and height readings and flag any taper or damaged track.

Provide the exhaust adapter
Bring the original removable window adapter or a manufacturer-approved template. GoIndustrial can create a CNC-cut port that matches the actual connector.

Confirm fit and retention
Review the finished dimensions, orientation, port location, edge clearance and how the panel will be secured. Do a dry fit before attaching the hose or compressing weather seals.
Installation and sealing
Clean the window track with an acrylic-compatible method, then place the panel without forcing it. Use removable weather seal or gasketing that the acrylic manufacturer confirms is compatible; some cleaners, sealants and gaskets can cause crazing or cracking. Support tall panels and patio-door inserts so the acrylic does not bow or carry unintended loads.
Connect the exhaust adapter according to the air-conditioner manual. Keep the hose as short and straight as practical, confirm the outdoor outlet is unobstructed and check the panel after the unit has operated. Remove and store the panel flat or vertically supported when the season ends.
Safety and limits
Use the insert only for the exhaust arrangement approved by the portable air-conditioner manufacturer. Never use it to vent fuel-burning appliances, combustion gases or hazardous process exhaust. Do not block a required emergency exit. Acrylic is combustible and must be protected from flame and high heat.
Frequently asked questions
Do I measure the visible glass?
Usually no. Measure the actual track or pocket that will capture the panel. The visible glass dimension does not include frame, stops and seals.
Is the hose diameter enough to cut the hole?
No. Many portable AC systems use shaped bayonet or tabbed adapters. Bring the exact factory adapter or an approved template.
Can the insert work in a casement window?
Often, but the support and retention method differs from a sliding sash. Send photographs and measurements so the fabricator can assess the opening.
Will the acrylic panel make the room airtight?
It can greatly improve the window connection, but performance depends on the entire fit, removable seals, hose connections and building conditions.
