Concrete countertops are made to be used, but their finish needs care. The key is knowing which job belongs to sealer, wax and polish—and whether your surface is bare concrete or already coated.

Why concrete countertops need a finish
Concrete has a porous surface. Without an appropriate finish, cooking spills and pigments can leave marks; acidic ingredients such as lemon or tomato can etch exposed cement paste. CHENG Sealer is a water-based acrylic finish that creates a translucent barrier and satin appearance while retaining the natural look of concrete. A sealer improves resistance, but spills should still be cleaned promptly and a cutting board or trivet used where appropriate. Finish performance depends on the concrete, application and maintenance.

Check the surface before sealing
First determine whether the countertop is bare, already sealed, waxed, painted or coated with another finish. If you did not build it and cannot identify the coating, ask the installer or finish supplier. A small hidden-area test can reveal problems, but it does not establish that an unknown system is compatible.
Clean a suitable unsealed surface using CHENG Surface Prep as its label directs, then remove residue. Make sure the concrete has reached the state required by its maker before sealing. Repair cracks, stains or surface defects separately; a clear sealer can make their appearance more noticeable.
Pause if the old finish is unknown or failing
Do not put CHENG Sealer over peeling film, heavy wax buildup, an unidentified sealer or a wet, contaminated surface. Determine the existing system and an appropriate removal or refinishing method first. Sealer, wax and polish serve different purposes; adding another layer will not repair a failed bond.
How to apply CHENG Concrete Countertop Sealer
The sequence below summarizes the CHENG/Interstar sealer label, which identifies the product for professional use. Read the current instructions on your container before starting. If you are not experienced with countertop finishing, ask a qualified fabricator to apply it. Work with clean, soft cloths; protect adjacent materials and use suitable gloves and eye protection.

Saturate the concrete with water
Wet the entire suitable countertop and allow the water to penetrate. The label uses this step to help achieve an even, streak-free finish.

Start with a 1:1 dilution
In a separate container, mix equal parts clean water and CHENG Sealer. Keep the concrete saturated with this diluted mix using a clean, soft rag for five minutes.

Increase the concentration
During the next five minutes, keep the concrete wet while gradually adding stronger sealer, ending with 100% sealer for the final saturation.

Remove all excess
Wipe remaining sealer with a damp rag. Do not leave pools to dry on the surface.

Apply a second coat
The label calls for a second coat 30 minutes after the first. Follow its application sequence and avoid pooling.

Give the finish time
The manufacturer says the best resistance is obtained after 48 hours. Protect the countertop from spills and demanding use during that period. Keep the product from freezing in storage or transit.
These directions are specific to this CHENG acrylic sealer. Do not substitute the application, cure or maintenance schedule of a different countertop coating.
Everyday care, wax and resealing
- Wipe up acidic, oily or strongly coloured spills promptly. Use a gentle cleaner compatible with your installed finish; avoid abrasive pads that wear it down.
- Use cutting boards and trivets to reduce scratches and heat stress. Do not use the counter itself as a chopping surface.
- Apply CHENG Wax only as its current label directs on a compatible sealed finish. Interstar recommends monthly use for best results.
- Use CHENG Polish to refresh sheen on the existing finish. Its label describes spraying, spreading with a clean cloth, allowing about two to three minutes to dry, then wiping away excess.
- If water absorption, staining, dull patches or coating wear changes, inspect the finish and identify what is on it before refinishing. There is no universal CHENG resealing date for every kitchen.
Sealer versus wax versus polish
Sealer establishes the protective acrylic finish. Wax is a renewable care layer over that finish. Polish helps restore appearance between deeper maintenance. A shine from wax or polish is not evidence that the underlying sealer is intact.
Which sealer size should you choose?
The 500 mL bottle is the smaller purchase for a modest project or touch-up plan. The 4 L container is for a larger job or repeated professional use. Confirm coverage on your concrete and the amount needed for the label's two-coat process before ordering; porosity and surface profile change consumption. Keep leftover product sealed and protected from freezing.

Can I seal an existing concrete countertop?
Possibly, after identifying its current finish and preparing it for a compatible refinishing system. An unknown or peeling coating should be assessed before applying CHENG Sealer.
Can I use CHENG Surface Prep on a sealed counter?
CHENG Surface Prep is described for cleaning unsealed concrete and for washing away residue after a compatible sealer-removal process. Follow the product label and your finish maker's guidance for a sealed counter.
Does wax replace sealer?
No. CHENG Wax is a maintenance layer intended to help the CHENG sealed finish resist stains and provide renewable sheen. It does not replace the sealer application.

How often should I reseal?
